Introducing Dr Yousef Abdalla
Dr Yousef Abdalla brings a wealth of experience to the practice and has an interest in all aspects of orthodontic treatment. After qualifying as a dentist in the UK, Dr Yousef Abdalla completed his specialist orthodontic training in Australia.
“As well as straightening teeth, one my most important jobs as a specialist orthodontist is making sure people’s bites and jaws are properly aligned”
Dr Yousef Abdalla is actively involved in orthodontic research and, as well as completing a PhD in orthodontics, he has published research papers in several international orthodontic journals. As a recognised leader in his field, Yousef has been invited to lecture both nationally and internationally.
After working in England for several years, including a period at the Oxford University teaching hospital, Yousef came to work at Cairns Hospital on a one-year working holiday in 2005. He enjoyed living in Far North Queensland so much that he never went back, and Cairns has been home to Yousef and his family ever since.
Yousef continues to work part-time at Cairns Hospital treating complex orthodontic cases, including children with a cleft lip and palate. Having been involved in setting up the JCU Dental School in Cairns, he also remains actively involved in the teaching of dental students.
“As with many health fields, advances in research and technology are rapidly changing how we can deliver orthodontic treatment. I enjoy working in a practice that focuses on being at the forefront of the latest orthodontic technologies and practices”
Outside of work, Yousef is kept very busy doing all the things a father of three children does.
